Message From the PC ChairsAs the technical program co-chairs for The 5th Annual International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems: Computing, Networking and Services, MobiQuitous 2007, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We hope you enjoy the technical program that we have put together for you and that you take advantage of the excellent group of people that have come together for MobiQuitous 2007. Some of the best opportunities come from the technical presentations and the opportunity to exchange ideas with other researchers and practitioners. Over the past four years, MobiQuitous has provided a forum to exchange ideas, techniques, and applications among researchers in the field of mobile and ubiquitous computing. Although many conferences have multiple TPC chairs to cover the work required to bring together a high quality conference, the choice of TPC chairs for MobiQuitous focused on bringing together three main areas in mobile and ubiquitous computing: Networking, Data Management and Services. To provide a successful conference for 2007, we have organized the technical program to foster discussion and potential collaboration among the attendees, who come from the diverse areas that contribute to the large research community of mobile and ubiquitous computing. The success of MobiQuitous 2007 can be attributed to many factors. First, the success over the past four years has brought MobiQuitous the recognition of the community as a top conference in the area. Second, the interest in mobile and ubiquitous computing from diverse communities resulted in an impressive set of submissions for us to work with. Finally, the hard work of the TPC resulted in an excellent technical program that we believe will spark interesting discussions and promote new areas of research. After a very successful publicity phase, the response to the call for papers was extremely positive. We received a total of 119 submissions. These papers covered diverse topics from architectures and protocols to case-studies and real-world experiences. The selection of papers for this year's program was carried out by a 67 member technical program committee. Each paper was reviewed by three or more experts who provided independent reviews in the first phase of the selection process. Once these reviews were complete, a discussion of each paper was initiated to reach consensus on each paper. This year, we held a very successful virtual TPC meeting, during which the TPC members contributed extensive discussions of the top papers. As a result of our discussion phase, a total of 27 full papers were accepted for presentation at the conference, which corresponds to a very competitive acceptance rate of 23%. Additionally, we have included 5 short papers that will each have an opportunity for a presentation during our Works in Progress Session. The 27 full papers and 5 short papers have been organized into 8 technical sessions spanning the three days of the conference. We cannot express our thanks enough to the members of the technical program committee. Each committee member reviewed an average of 8 papers. This year's TPC showed us amazing support, providing us with extensive reviews with constructive information for the authors and in a very timely manner. Additionally, we were very impressed with the level of dedication of the TPC during the discussion phase. Since we had many papers that were delegated to external reviewers, we would also like to thank these reviewers for helping in the success of MobiQuitous 2007. We look forward to your continued participation in future MobiQuitous conferences as authors, attendees, sponsors, or members of the Organizing or Program committees.
